Baritone Robert Garland is an International Opera Awards Young Artist and a previous recipient of the MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year Award.
His roles include Samuel in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance (Opera Holland Park), Krusina (cover) in Smetana's the Bartered Bride (Garsington Opera Alvarez Young Artist), Zeus in Tim Benjamin's new opera The Fire of Olympus (Radius Opera), Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze Di Figaro (Blackbird Opera), Le Grand Prêtre de Dagon (cover) in Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila (Grange Park Opera), Ibn-Hakia in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, Steward in Dove's Flight, Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Herr Peachum in Weil's Die Dreigroschenoper (all Royal Academy Opera), Schaunard in Puccini's La bohème (Vivo D'Arte), Figaro in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia (Magnetic Opera) and Belcore in Donizetti's L’elisir d’amore (Winterbourne Opera). He has also created the roles of Muffty in Tom Floyd's MICROmegas for Tête à Tête Opera Festival and Aaron in Keith Burstein's The Prometheus Revolution for Grimeborn Festival Opera.
Robert’s opera credits include English National Opera, Grange Festival Opera, Nevill Holt Opera and Northern Ireland Opera.
A keen concert soloist, Robert has performed in venues including Cadogan Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, St John's Smith Square and St Martin-in-the-Fields. His recent engagements include Handel’s Messiah with the Britten Sinfonia and Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem with the London Philharmonic Choir.
Robert recently graduated from the Royal Academy Opera Course where he studied with Mark Wildman and Jonathan Papp, having previously completed his undergraduate studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
